Following the idea/principle “public money - public code ‘ or ’public money - public data ”, there are alternatives to well-known solutions from global corporations, and not just for messengers. As I am asked about this time and again, here are a few suggestions for more privacy-friendly and/or open-source alternatives from a wide range of areas that can be used by various server operators or hosted by yourself:
